Maybelline - The Rocket Volum' Express Mascara | Review.

Good morning! How is everyone today? I hope your week is off to a great start! I'm enjoying mine so far, I have 5 days holiday off work. Really needing it, I just worked 7 days straight and it felt like the longest week ever.
This week I will be spending time relaxing, catching up with people and a bit of cleaning too! Blogging as well, can't forget that! :)

Here's another purchase from a couple of weeks ago. It's always nice to test out products a few times before doing a review, I find. This product is the newest mascara from Maybelline, it's got a long name, as usual! here goes...The Rocket Volum' Express Mascara. I must say I avoided it for quite some time, I wasn't fond of the packaging and I thought I wouldn't like it. I like the colour combination, but just not for a mascara. That might just be me, I'm not sure. However, after seeing some wonderful reviews of it I couldn't resist for long!

It was compared to They're Real! by Benefit, and that's honestly what swung it for me. Plus the fact it was on offer for £5.99 in Superdrug at the time (I'm unsure what the normal price is, £8.99 maybe). I hate spending an obscene amount of money on mascara (for example £18.50 on They're Real!). I have a sample of said Benefit mascara and I love it, as most people do, and I fully intended to get a full sized one when my sample runs out but now I feel I don't need to. That's how well the Maybelline Rocket performs, the plastic/rubber bristles separate lashes wonderfully and add a lot of length as well as volume. The black is very black too. At first I found the feel of the wand a little weird on my lashes as the bristles are short, you get used to this very quickly.
I've seen some absolutely horrible reviews on the Maybelline website, mainly complaining about clumping and the brush. I must say I disagree with both of these things. I have no problem with clumping, and while the brush is a little odd it does get easier to use after two or three uses! The only thing I have a problem with is removal, it seems like a waterproof mascara even though it isn't. This wouldn't be a problem for most people but I'm not really a fan of waterproof anything as I like to be able to remove it easily. Especially mascara. So I probably need a better make up remover, but I'm waiting for Bioderma to come to the UK. Hopefully it will be soon!

The Good.

Great price point.
Separates lashes.
True black colour.
Lengthens lashes.
Adds volume.
No clumping.

The Bad.

Difficult to remove.
Gaudy packaging.

I'm awful at applying mascara to the roots and tops of my lashes so there are always bits I miss! I think the blackness of this mascara highlights that even more, that's not really a bad thing though. I need to get better at applying it, any tips?!
Did you succumb to this offer? If so, how are you liking it?

My latest purchase was some Dainty Doll products. I'm picking them up today and I'm so excited to finally try them out, for such a great price too! Stay tuned to find out more. :)

Thanks for reading!

    1. I wouldn't say I've found a perfect one yet either. This is pretty close, just not quite!
Thank you very much, and thanks for commenting :)

  2. This was a super helpful review, I'm looking for a new mascara to try and I really like the wand on this one. If you have trouble applying from base to tip, try wiggling the wand back and forth at the base to get the product down there then work your way up to the tips. Practice makes perfect :)

    1. I'm so glad you found it helpful! Yeah, the wand is something a bit different and it works so well for separating lashes.
Thanks for the tip! I tend to rush mascara application, so I do need to make more effort!

      Thanks again! :)

  3. It's a load of faff and a pain to remember but using a business card to protect your skin from mascara works and I believe you can actually buy mascara guards :)

    1. I've seen mascara guards before but like you said, it's remembering to use them that's the issue! Using a card or something is a great idea though, thank you. :)

  4. Considering you say you aren't that good at applying to roots and tips of lashes - you've done a good job on the picture! Looks amazing. I agree though, the packaging isn't the best, but judging by your review, it looks like a good mascara!
I see on your 'about me' section at the side that you like films and books, my blog features reviews on each of these areas once a week as well as beauty and other random things! I think you may be interested (at least I hope so!)

    1. Aw, thanks. You can see it more when I look down or blink, thankfully it's not too obvious most of the time!
I'm glad someone else doesn't like the packaging. It is great though.
Just checked out your blog and I do really like it! I can't wait to see This is 40, I also LOVE Paul Rudd, and Jason Segel. Judd Apatow really can do no wrong in my opinion. :)
      Thanks again.

  5. I've heard so many good reviews about this too! May have to try it out x

I got sent a free sample of the Rimmel Lash Accelerator (it's new in stores, £5.99 in superdrug I think) and it's an amazing mascara!

I was going to try that one out, but I wasn't sure if I'd like it or not, and I couldn't wait so I bought the Rocket one instead!
